Cleaning a rod & reel Empty Cleaning a rod & reel

I found a rod & reel that had been tucked away in a corner of our garage for a year or so and it's really dusty and grimey and I'm not sure what the best way to clean it is. I'm leaning more toward windex wipes or soap and water but I don't want to ruin it. Any suggestions?

Take it apart, wipe with soap and water and put some lubricant on moving parts. BTW we're having a problem with the forum, will have to delete it and start over. Thanks!
